Not long ago, it seemed impossible to find short inseam jeans. The few petite jeans that did exist were insanely expensive or weren’t exactly “in style”. Thank goodness, times have changed. Brands are finally offering jeans with shorter inseams and in a greater range of sizes. Seriously, what took them so long?!
Finding petite jeans and pants is now easier than ever and they’re surprisingly affordable. Below are some of the best places to look for jeans and pants designed for petites. These stores were chosen based on their style selection, size range, and affordability. And many can be found locally, making returns a breeze.
American Eagle is the best choice if you are looking for a large style selection. Their inseams range from X-Short to X-Long and their overall sizes go from 00 (XXS) to 20 (XXL). In addition to jeans, they also carry short inseam pants, which is perfect if you need them for work.
Styles: Curvy jeans, jeggings, mom jeans, skinny jeans, tomgirl jeans, flare jeans, wide-leg jeans, and more.
Pricing: Expect to pay between $30 and $50. During sales, you can get them for less but popular sizes sell out fast. Also, make sure to sign up for their free rewards program.
Old Navy offers a large selection of jeans in a wide range of sizes including petites, average, and plus-sizes. Their inseams aren’t as short as American Eagle, but their prices are amazing and they offer free returns. They also carry short inseam pants and leggings. And if you are plus-size, definitely check them out as they offer a large and varied selection.
Styles: Jean styles include skinny, straight, jegging, boyfriend, and boot cut. They also have a wide color and pattern selection so if you like colored denim, this is the place to go.
Price: With a sale going on (which is always) expect to pay $20 to $30 for most styles. Credit cardholders can sometimes get better deals.
Kohl’s has some great petite options, but you will have to search a little harder to find them. Unlike the previous stores, Kohl’s carries many different brands, each with their own unique styles and sizing. For petites, the best brands include Vera Wang, Nine West, LC Lauren Conrad, Sonoma, Apt. 9, and Land’s End. Unfortunately, their plus-size selection appears to be limited but Nine West has some great tummy-control options.
Styles: Mostly skinny, boot cut, and straight-leg styles.
Pricing: Depends on current sales and coupons. Many range from $25 to $45. Personally, I pay around $26 for a pair of Vera Wang and less than $20 for Nine West when on sale (and with coupons).
Talbots offers a nice selection of jeans that are offered in both petite and plus sizes. They also carry short inseam pants and leggings which are perfect for work or going to the gym. They are a bit on the pricier side but you can easily score a pair under $50 during their sales. Some shoppers might prefer this store as they carry a lot of sophisticated apparel (i.e. no juniors section). They also have a small collection of colored denim styles which can be hard to find in extended sizes elsewhere.
Styles: Jeggings, skinny, slim, straight, bootcut, and wide-leg.
Price: When on sale, many styles are under $50. When regularly priced, they are closer to $100.
Lands’ End offers one of the largest selections of petite jeans out there with a great mix of both comfortable and form-fitting designs. Most of their styles have inseams starting at 26″ and as a bonus, many come in plus size. They also have an extensive variety of petite pants in both formal and active styles. And last but not least, they offer a large assortment of jeans and pants with elastic waists which is perfect if you are looking for more comfort around your mid-section.
Styles: Skinny, jegging, elastic waist, straight-leg, bootcut, compression, and more.
Pricing: Varies but many styles are less than $30 when on sale (if purchased from their website). You can also find some of their petite styles sold at Kohl’s which might have better deals.
Macy’s offers petite options from several different brands including Style & Co, INC International Concepts, Charter Club, and NYDJ to name a few. The styles they offer include a mix of casual and more trendy designs. If you’re looking for extra short inseams, check out their cropped and ankle styles which start around 24″. In addition to jeans, there is also a great selection of petite pants along with short inseam loungewear and joggers.
Styles: All styles including tummy control options.
Pricing: Varies by brand but many denim styles are $40 or less when on sale.
Gap offers a small but well-rounded mix of petite jeans. Most of their styles are on the sophisticated side but they do have a couple of unique options with prints like tye-dye and camo. Their plus-size options are limited but they do offer free return shipping for online orders. Their website can be a little difficult to use so they aren’t my first choice for petite jeans but they are worth taking a look at.
Styles: Mostly skinny styles but also offer distressed, boyfriend, and mom jeans
Pricing: When regularly priced, many jeans are $80 and up. But during sales, you can find many styles for $40 or lower.
J.C. Penney is now offering petite denim styles by a brand called a.n.a. I haven’t had the chance to try them yet but it looks like they have multiple styles to choose from including jeggings, straight leg, and looser fitting styles. The only downside is that they don’t come in many color options. Some other petite jeans styles sold by J.C. Penney include Liz Claiborne, Gloria Vanderbilt, and St. John’s Bay. There are also petite pants available by Worthington, Alfred Dunner, and other brands.
Styles: Jeggings, straight leg, wide leg
Pricing: When on sale (which is always) many styles are less than $30.
